It was raining yesterday night so today is our off day again, hooray~~~
First station - The Red Woods Whakarewarewa Forest
Whakarewarewa Forest is one of Rotorua's most spectacular natural assets. It is famous for its magnificent stands of towering Californian Coastal Redwood. Once reached, we were truly impressed by the fragrance of Red Woods. The aroma is so relaxing and we had never breath so lovely before!

The Mary Sutherland Memorial Redwood - the first woman Forest Graduate in the world |
Red Woods is an awesome place to us, as we saw the tallest tree and also the forest of Red Woods. The trunks are so huge that even four of us couldn't hug it! Surprisingly, when we touched the trunks, they are very soft and smooth!
After a great walk at Red Woods, we went to Rotorua city for a self pampered spa!

The history of Rotorua |
Polynesian Spa - world top 10 spa! We must pamper ourself after our hard work at kiwi orchard!
There are 7 pools with different temperature and minerals for us to soak in. Since day 1 we reached this country, we are not really used to the cold weather here. To soak ourself in the hot spring is really an awesome satisfaction! We swim freely, switching in between the pools, chit chat while enjoy the nice view. There is no time limit for us and it only costs NZD 25!
Third station - Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
The Taupo Volcanic Zone is generally recognised as one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. About 250km in length, the zone follows a north easterly direction. At the northen end is White Island, an active volcano 48kms off the Bay of Plenty coast. Wai-O-Tapu is also known as "The New Wonderland" since 1886.
Over a dozen craters are located in close proximity. They range from 5-50 metres in diameter and are up to 20 metres deep. All were formed by the ground surface collapsing. Many craters have various types of geothermal activitiy including steam fumeroles, sulphur vents and bubbling pools. Water temperature can range up to 80 degree celcius, and colors are introduced into the area by various oxides.

The smell is very strong! |

The hot pool is bubbling! |

Artist's Pallete - the Champagne Pool |
Champagne pool is the largest of the hot water springs at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. Earthquakes have tilted the spring, causing mineral laden water to flow over the sinter encrusted flat. This has become known as the Artist's Palette because of the trace mineral deposits that streak it's surface and which are distributed by direction of the wind. It occupies a 700 year old explosion crater formed by a hydro-thermal eruption.

Can you imagine how hot is it? |

Beautiful Green - sulphur |
Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland is quite huge; it has more than 20 attraction points for us to see. After we finish visiting, it started to rain. We feel glad as it rains just when we finish walked the whole park. However, we know that there is a mud pool nearby. Without hesitation, we went to the Mud Pool with umbrella. (Working also never been so hardworking, haha)

The Mud Pool, mud is boiling vigorously! |
|
火山泥飞溅! |
The mud is actually acid sulphate - the fluids are acid and the dominant minerals are sulphates. The clays have complex make up, best refered to as hydrothermal clay.We got to smell the mud's odor, and all of us were amazed by the boiling mud. It is really hot and we could see the mud is boiling very vigorously! This is something we can never ever see in Malaysia, a very good experience!
