Rapids Jet Day!!!
Rapids Jet is set in the beautiful Aratiatia Scenic Reserve, and it is a good white water Jet Boating experience.

The wind is blowing strong hence we're extremely cold while we're jet boating. However it is quite fun as we blast through the narrow canyons, and speed over the crystal clear waters of the upper Waikato River. The scenery on the river is spectacular and we can enjoy the amazing surrounds. The jet boat's kiwi owner, Rusty, Jimmy and Gazza, taught us about the history of the area, while the boat negotiates tight spins.
After the thrilling activity, we passed by a horse racing event nearby! We're excited as we never seen such event openly before. We decided to stop our car to have a look.

Since the time is still early, we have a 2 hours walk from spa thermal park to the famous huka falls.

After an hour walking, we finally reach our destination - Huka Falls! It is the most beautiful waterfall I've seen, as the water is crystal clear and the air is so fresh!
The water surging through this narrow gut is flowing from Lake Taupo, and this is The Waikato... New Zealand's longest river, at the start of its 425 kilometre journey to the sea south of Auckland.
Here, the river is confined by hard geothermally-altered rock. Over time it has carved a channel about 15 metres wide and 10 metres deep through the underlying softer sedimentary layers. The water churns long this channel towards Huka Falls at a rate much faster than the river's average flow of 40m per second.
Hour by hour, the rushing Waikato water continues to erode this gut. Gradually, as the river scours more from its bed, Huka Falls will 'move' upstream.
Spotted a huka falls jet, an activity there for people to view the huka falls by jet boat |
About 200,000 litres of water plunge nine metres over the great rock face of Huka Falls every second |
The Waikato is also New Zealand's major electricity-producing rivers. It supplies eight hydroelectric stations and provides cooling water for three other stations, two of them geothermal and one thermal. The Waikato River system produces about 15% of New Zealand's power.

After the fun activities at Taupo, we headed to Turangi, where we will stay for 2 nights there for our Tongariro National Park. We're glad that we are staying in A Plus Samurai Lodge, a cheap BBH with special murals.
Tonight is the earliest night that we go to bed, as we are very nervous for our Tongariro trekking tomorrow. When we sleep at 8.30pm tonight, we switched off the light and still the day is so bright outside! Good night, well prepared for our adventurous hiking tomorrow!
